Whether you are starting out in your career as a family lawyer, working your way up the career ladder or an experienced family lawyer, Family Law Section membership has much to offer. Through the Family Law Section, you can become part of a community working to ensure family lawyers gain both the support and recognition they deserve.

Joining the Family Law Section is quick and easy and costs less than $5.00 a week – the price of a cup of coffee! There is a special rate for community law centre employees and junior practitioners (those who have held a practising certificate for less than two years).

Membership or associate membershp of the New Zealand Law Society (NZLS) is a prerequisite for Family Law Section membership.

Full membership is available to those who hold a current practising certificate and are members of the NZLS.

Associate membership is available to associate members of the NZLS who do not hold a current practising certificate but have a significant interest in Family Law. Examples of associate members would be retired lawyers; overseas lawyers; present and former members of the judiciary in New Zealand or elsewhere; and legal academics. It is also available for current members of the Australian Family Law Section.

Australian Family Law Section membership is available to current members of the New Zealand Family Law Section. We have negotiated a reduced membership rate for members which is half of the full Australian membership fee. The membership year runs from 1 July to 30 June.
